Tan Sri Datuk Alex Ooi and Puan Sri Datuk Joanne Phor Lead Ideal Property Group into Healthcare and Wellness Sector
PENANG – Ideal Property Group formalised a joint venture with Melaka Straits Medical Centre Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Oriental Holdings Berhad, on 28 May 2026 for the proposed development of a tertiary medical centre named Ideal Oriental Medical Centre, to be undertaken by Star Hill City (M) Sdn Bhd.
The signing ceremony was officiated by Tan Sri Datuk Alex Ooi, Chairman of Ideal Property Group, together with Puan Sri Datuk Joanne Phor, Executive Director, alongside representatives from Oriental Holdings Berhad.
As a stakeholder in the development of Ideal Oriental Medical Centre, Ideal Property Group, under the leadership of Tan Sri Datuk Alex Ooi and Puan Sri Datuk Joanne Phor, is venturing into the healthcare and wellness sector — a natural progression of the Group’s commitment to building complete communities where quality living and wellbeing go hand in hand.
Planned on a 1.9-acre site within Queens Waterfront, Ideal Property Group’s flagship integrated waterfront masterplan in Penang, the proposed multidisciplinary medical centre will focus on high-demand subspecialty and tertiary healthcare services for both local and international patients. The proposed development is expected for completion by end of 2030.
The facility aims to serve the growing communities of Gelugor, Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas, and the surrounding Bayan Lepas manufacturing corridor, while supporting Penang’s thriving medical tourism sector. Designed as a digitally driven medical centre, it is expected to incorporate advanced medical technologies, robotic-assisted systems, and patient-centric innovations. Upon full operation, the medical centre is expected to generate approximately 1,000 employment opportunities.
