Temple Moves to Permanent Place in Sungai Ara

Sam Kuan Yeah Temple in Sungai Ara, Penang, has finally found a permanent place after many years.

Thanks to the Penang State Government and Ideal Property Group, construction of the single-storey temple in Lintang Sungai Ara 9 has been completed.

Since its inception 50 years ago, Persatuan Penganut Dewa Sam Kuan Yeah Lee Siang Soo had become a popular temple in Sungai Ara with the local folks. Following the death of its founder Master Lee (李坛主) in the 1990s, the temple activities gradually decreased. At present, the temple is being cared by the Chairman Dato’ Tan Choo Hin and his younger brother Tan Chor Chew, as well as several committee members.

In a turn of event a few years ago, Sam Kuan Yeah Temple was identified to give way to a proposed development in the area. During the moment of crisis, the temple was fortunate to be extended assistance from Penang State Government and Ideal Property Group. Subsequently the temple was awarded a piece of land in Sungai Ara as the new location for its new premise.

The Sam Kuan Yeah Lee Siang Soo was a deity from Chaozhou, China, who was introduced to local folk by its devotees for worship.
